When you are aware, you dare!
Amoli, meaning ‘precious’ is a youth-run NGO established in 2018 by eight young girls to prevent the social evil of Child Sexual Abuse existing in society. Amoli Trust educates children about the abnormality of Child Sexual Abuse and helps in the protection of their innocence. We aim at making them courageous and strong enough to not only protect themselves from this social evil but also stand against it if needed. We inculcate in them the thought that it is not their fault and that they should come out strongly against the wrong. At present, Amoli is focussing on spreading awareness among primary school children.
THE ISSUE
'I didn’t know I was sexually abused until I found out what it was. I would trade anything in the world to get those few minutes of my childhood back.'
Every nine minutes, a child is abused in India. According to a survey, the ratio of child victims to adult victims is 3:1. The horrifying statistics are ample to invigorate us to eradicate the existence of Sexual Abuse.
Child Sexual Abuse is the erotic use of a child whether physically or emotionally, and their sexual exploitation in the fullest meaning of the term, even if no bodily contact is ever made. It not only demolishes the innocence of childhood but also scars their adulthood. The trauma encircling abuse is appalling and abysmal.
The UN Convention on Rights of Children mirrors the right of an adult to the children, which means that children have a right to a secure life. Children have a fundamental right to expression. It is the responsibility of the adults to edify them about emotions so that in times of distress, they are able to identify their feelings and express them distinctly.
With hopeful hearts and minds, yet to be nurtured with the sense of fair and foul, the children come up with heart-wrenching statements that it has become a necessity to help them feel safe. This creates a strong urge in us to educate them about it because "When you are aware, you dare."

We believe in ripping out sexual abuse at the roots itself by educating children about what might lie ahead. It is fundamental to broaden children’s trust circles by having the youth of today safeguard the youth of tomorrow and understand that the expression of emotions is important. This refrains children from indulging in the vicious cycle of self-blame, self-shame and self-harm.

We envision to realise the power of community by creating a sense of responsibility to enlighten the children about the prevalence of Child Sexual Abuse and protect them from it. The voices of the children will grow louder as they challenge the social evil existing in the world. As long as the children are concerned, the world should be filled with safety, trust and happiness so that they grow into beautiful flowers of cognisance and knowledge.

MEET THE TEAM
The trauma of sexual assault may heal physically, but emotional trauma endures throughout life. The eight of us knew that to change the scenario; we had to hit the roots directly, that is, children! Two years ago, we came together for Rajma Chawal, decided our roles and the script for the session on prevention of Child Sexual Abuse, without having the slightest clue where this would go.
A team which started with eight girls has now become a huge family- all working hard to transform the adults of tomorrow. Since inception, we’ve educated children belonging to different parts of the country, realising our dream of ‘Every child is preciuos, Every child is Amoli’. Not only have we learnt several lessons from the volunteers, but also the children.
It doesn't take a lot to bring a change into society. If you wish to see the change, start with yourself; the footsteps will follow. Even if you impact one child, the immense satisfaction you get after safeguarding a child's life is priceless. We all hold power to reform the society; we all are precious; we all are Amoli! Amoli's vision is that 15 years down the line, while we are conducting a session, we don't get another 8-year old who comes to us and says that her mother said this is normal, forget about it and get back to your normal life.
Like every organisation has a binding force, ours is the eagerness to prevent sexual assault, and of course, Rajma Chawal!
